Well...on to wikis this week. I am not sure I have much to say about them. Until now, I haven't had much/any experience with them. I like the concept of a wiki and think that it can DEFINITELY be useful in the classroom, but I haven't had time to play yet. In order for me to incorporate something new in the classroom, I need sufficient time to play with it. Unfortunately, time is at a minimum at the moment, with all of the crazy work this semester. I am enjoying creating a wiki in class, but still need more time to play/prepare for classroom use.

I agree. I think all of this stuff would be very interesting to use, but I'm going to have to get past this semester and play before I can use it. I guess we can get all we can and learn as much about it, so we have ideas to explore when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteYes, time is the big issue. With Sols, teacher are forced to cram information down students throats and hope that they get it. Most of these teachers are digital immigrants who are not familiar with these new tools and just don't have the time to learn how to use them effectively. I am like Brian, I would not want to try and implement a new tool, that I didn't completely understand yet.
ReplyDeleteI think that some of the ideas and tools that we are introduced to are easier than others to get rolling. I think that the wiki is user friendly and probably one of the more impressive tools that could be implemented rather easily... I would start simple by maybe creating a place that students could post their writing. Another idea I have is that when working in groups the group could be responsible for creating a wiki page. The page could be editing a updated from home by students with access.
